An aesthetic rooted in fragments of bones, stones and the botanical world. Imbued with the landscape, each piece is a world of its own.
I design and make meaningful adornments which can be valued independently of the current fashion. I work on my pieces until they reflect the organic feel of stone, bone and wood sculpted for a long time by the elements. I strive to make each piece have a life of its own, so you can trust it to be durable and to communicate with the body.
Balancing ancient influences with a contemporary aesthetic, these edgy yet elegant, unconventional talismans can be worn to celebrate the beauty of imperfection. They act as an interface between the body and the landscape to express our innate connection to nature and the primal aspects of our being.
I make jewellery to celebrate both our individuality and our connection to a greater whole. To honour ancient artisans, whose work continues to amaze us after centuries. To stay independent of the prevailing, often shallow aesthetics of the mass produced by making objects which are truly unique. Seeking an elemental edginess of style, I aim to show a hint of the darkness which gives our life dimension, yet is often overlooked in our culture.
When I was a child, objects had a magical value for me and this hasn‘t changed–three daughters of my own and an MA in the arts later and my pockets are still full of the strangest things.
I am Agata, the designer, maker and founder of Undergrowth Studio. I‘m an independent Polish artist and maker working and living in Ireland.
Walking in the forest or on the wild coast, I find dramatic beauty which is always subject to change. Back in my studio, my designs are born in a flux of ideas in interaction with the material. I love finding shapes for wearable expressions of the wildness and tranquillity which we share with the landscape. Small contemporary objects to wear with you and remind you of that very primal connection at all times.
When constructing a piece, I start with a fragment, a shape I find meaningful. Finding the rest of the story is an exciting process which usually takes time.
I am very happy to be sharing my creative life with you. I am always happy to answer any questions you might have about my work- please get in touch! While I might not always be free to take custom orders, depending on my workload, please contact me and we can discuss the details. I love the challenge and I get a lot of great ideas from my customers.
The fragments of natural matter I find on my rambles on the wild coast speak of processes which deeply resonate with the mind and body. Weathered, partially destroyed surfaces, cracks and marks of time communicate a wild yet serene, imperfect beauty. My edgy designs compliment the irregular harmony of the human face and body. Their organic geometry is perfect for expressing an unconventional, offbeat elegance.
All Undergrowth Studio jewellery is designed and made by me in my little home studio in Ireland.
I work with natural materials, mostly sterling silver. Most of the metal I use is recycled and I upcycle all my studio scraps. In metalsmithing I use only mild chemicals which are safe for the environment. I work slowly and carefully, please be aware that 1-3 weeks production time is needed.
